12 Jobs That Will Not Exist in 20-30 Years

What education should you get to best position yourself for the coming decades? What line of work should you be in, and which professions have no future? Many jobs performed by humans today will be performed by smart robots in the near future. Here is a list of 12 professions that will most likely be obsolete, or at the very least out-of-date, by 2040.

1. Cashier: Many grocery stores already have self-operated check stands, but that’s just a tradeoff between a cashier doing the job and you doing it yourself. In the future, check stands will be fully automated. Just leave your groceries on the belt and let the robot tally it up – many times faster than a human could. As a consequence, lines will be much less of a nuisance, as they become increasingly non-existent.

2. Mailman: Who sends snail-mail these days? Mostly nostalgic pen pals. While we may have a small segment left of the paper mail industry, most of the things we use the mail for either is transitioning to or has already moved completely online: Bills, public notices, and business-letters. Although, we’ll still need package delivery (at least until nanotechnology enables us to send and download material objects like we send files today, in 30-40 years.)

3. Film processor: If you’re passionate about sitting behind the movie theater controlling the movie reel, start blogging about it, because you’ll never get a job as one.

4. Librarian: Libraries will soon look very different. Why have a library containing 50,000 paper made books when you can have 2 million of them in virtual form, which you can access with your library card and download to your kindle or iPad. There will not be any need for humans to process the lending of books.

5. Construction worker: Construction work can be a hazardous job, so why should humans risk their lives doing it? Insurance companies certainly won’t cover a construction firm that that takes such unnecessary risks. Robotics are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and they’ll be constructing buildings far more rapidly and much cheaper.

6. Soldier, fighter pilot: These professions will be obsolete for the same reasons as construction worker: Why risk human lives unnecessarily when robots are cheap and efficient?

7. Many (but not all) jobs in oil related industries: For fuel purposes, oil is far too expensive to extract, it pollutes, and we’re running out of it. Many other fuel technologies (hydrogen, solar, fuel cell, to mention a few) have far greater potential in terms of cost-effectiveness and environmental sustainability, and many new jobs will emerge in these sectors.

8. Receptionist: Artificial intelligence and robotics sciences are approaching a point where the intelligent robots we can make will match humans. These robots will be our faithful servants who perform the menial tasks, so humans can focus on developing themselves.

9. Waiter: 25 years down the road, a robot will hand you the menu and ask if you’d like to start with something to drink.

10. Security guard: Buy a strong, obedient robot that can see in the dark, never falls asleep on duty, and won’t accept bribes, to protect your home or your business.

11. Maids: Wake up to eggs and bacon, ironed pants and a clean house, all provided by your unbelievably cheap, efficient AI-maid.

12. Car mechanic: Cars will become too technically complex to repair for humans. It’s also cheaper to let a robot do it. Eventually, cars will fix themselves. They’ve already started driving themselves.

What other jobs do you think will be rendered obsolete in the coming decades? You can leave a comment below, and I’ll add it to the list. The more we know about this, the better.

Emerging Technologies in Supply Chain Management

The Internet has an enormous impact on how people communicate, shop, and work. This technology has also created changes in how companies conduct business in the 21st century. One of the areas of business that is likely to see tremendous change in the coming years is supply-chain management. By harnessing the power of the Internet, supply-chain management will continue to evolve in ways that will enable enterprises to change the way they manage inventory, place orders with suppliers, and communicate critical information with each other.

While some of these technologies have existed for years, or decades in the case of radio frequency identification tags, the harnessing of the Internet to these technologies offers the potential for transforming supply-chain management. Improved supply-chain management also means improved inventory control and increased profits.

In 2001, Nike missed its revenue target by a significant dollar amount. The shortfall was explained in part by a failed supply-chain automation project. “Some estimate that new technologies could strip out more than $30 billion in excess inventories” (Fonstad). The term e-business – as distinct from e-commerce – can be used to describe the adoption of the Internet to accelerate the goal of supply-chain integration (Lee) Four emerging technologies and practices in e-business will have a dramatic impact on supply-chain management.

o Virtual marketplaces

o Radio frequency identification tags (RFID)

o Synchronized planning

o Supplier performance management

VIRTUAL MARKET PLACES

MetalJunction is the virtual marketplace owned by two of India’s largest steel producers. Tata Steel and Sail Steel traded more than 5,000 tons of steel in March 2002. By March 2003, tonnage had increased to 43,000 tons per month (Mills).

What is a virtual marketplace and what are its applications to industry? Virtual marketplaces have many names such as e-markets, net market places, and electronic markets. These markets all have common characteristics.

o Reliance on the Internet

o Buyers and Sellers come together without an intermediary

o Neutrality (all buyers and sellers are treated the same)

o Information is provided about sellers and products

In its most fundamental form, a virtual market place brings together buyers and sellers through the internet. At its highest level, a virtual market place gives a purchaser and supplier the opportunity to re-engineer the sales administration process, improve forecasting and scheduling, renew its go-to-market approach, shorten its order-to-cash cycle, and enhance customer service (Steel24-7). Ideally, virtual market places are centered on a particular industry. Some prominent examples are steel, agricultural products, and automotive parts. In addition to providing information on vendors and general information about its products, a virtual market may also offer product specifications, side-by-side comparisons, technical papers, and market analysis.

Many challenges exist in setting up an e-marketplace. Primary among these are identifying the tools necessary to use the market, providing a secure environment, pricing, payment, and fulfillment. For an orderly marketplace, Internet protocols must be selected. The cost of the technology to access and engage in the market must not be prohibitive. Security and privacy must be adequate to ensure confidential transactions. Authentication and authorization of users from many organizations must be possible. Private communication must be assured.

Pricing policies may be set or bartered. A common example of bartering, or auctioning, is E-Bay for consumer products. Payment procedures can be predetermined or arranged between the buyer and the seller. Finally, fulfillment of orders must be insured. As in the case of traditional marketplaces, failure to deliver in a timely manner will result in firms losing market power and ultimately may lead to failure (McKnight).

A final issue of concern in virtual markets is jurisdiction and governing law. Virtual markets place its members in the global trading community. Since e-markets are a recent phenomenon, defining the legal system responsible for settling disputes is an evolving process. Current legal reasoning places jurisdiction in the locality of the market. In a virtual market, however, one must ask where the market actually exists. While the FTC has attempted to exert control over on-line transactions, a definitive ruling on the jurisdiction for international e-market places has not yet been made.

RADIO FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATION TAGS

In November 2003, Wal-Mart gathered together its 120 top suppliers to announce it would require radio frequency identification tags (RFID) on shipping pallets and cases of merchandise. Wal-Mart set a deadline of January 2005 for its top 100 suppliers. The remaining suppliers will had until the start of 2006 to meet the requirement (Sliwa).

A basic RFID system has three components.

o Antenna

o Transceiver

o Transponder (tag)

The antenna activates the tag, reads, and writes data to it. When an RFID tag moves past a reader, its information is transmitted to a host computer for processing. Most common RFID systems are passive and contain their own power source, have a short transmitting range, operate at a low frequency, and have a low cost. While RFID has existed since the 1960’s recent technological changes have reduced the cost and allowed the technology to be used in more applications.

A common everyday use of RFID is the automatic reading of prepaid passes on toll roads. The advantages of RFID are many fold. For example, RFID is extremely fast, non-contact, does not require line of site, and can operate in a variety of weather conditions. In the case mentioned above, the benefits of RFID will go to Wal-Mart, while the costs are the responsibility of the suppliers. Kara Romanov, an analyst with AMR Research, Inc., estimates the start-up costs for a supplier who ships 50 million containers per year will run between $13 million and $23 million. These costs include RFID tags and associated hardware and software (Sliwa).

SamSys Technologies of Richmond Hills, ON and ThingMagic, LLC of Cambridge, MA are two leaders in the application of RFID to supply-chain management. Sam-Sys is dedicated to an open system environment that will not limit RFID to a single protocol or range of frequencies. This philosophy is based on the premise of many vendors and readers that will work seamlessly together (SamSys).

ThingMagic was founded in 2000 by five MIT graduates. It has developed low cost RFID systems. Presently, ThingMagic is developing and marketing protocol agile RFID tag readers (ThingMagic). In addition to Wal-Mart, the Department of Defense (DOD) is a key player in RFID development and deployment. The Department of Defense has issued a new policy, which requires all suppliers embed passive RFID chips in each individual product if possible, or otherwise at the level of cases or pallets by January 2005. In February 2004, the DOD hosted a summit for its suppliers to discuss its RFID plans (Broersma). To quote Colin Cobain the Chief Technology Officer of Tesco Stores: “The question is not will RFID change the way you do business. The question is will you be ready” (ThingMagic).

SYNCHRONIZED PLANNING ACROSS THE SUPPLY-CHAIN

“Synchronized planning, in the form of collaborative forecasting and replenishment, coordinated production, inventory and capacity plans, information integration, and direct linkages of ERP systems, is one of the most exciting developments in supply chain management in many industries” (Synchronous). Synchronized Planning involves key steps (Lee).

o Information integration

o Planning synchronization

o Workflow coordination

o New business models

First, information integration requires information sharing and transparency. It is the sharing of information among the members of the supply chain. Information exchanged may include inventory levels, production schedules, and shipment schedules. The benefits include better job scheduling and a reduction of the bullwhip effect. “The effect indicates a lack of synchronization among supply chain members. Even a slight change in consumer sales ripples backward in the form of magnified oscillations upstream, resembling the result of a flick of a bullwhip handle” (Chase 335).

Planning synchronization defines what is to be done with the information that is shared. This can include collaborative planning and joint design. The benefits are lower cost and improved service.

If planning synchronization is the “what” is to be done with shared information, workflow coordination is the “how” it is done. Operations that can be coordinated include procurement, engineering and design changes, and production planning. Benefits include early time to market, improved service, and gains in efficiency. Synchronized planning can lead to new business models. Not only can these new business models redefine workflow, they can lead to changes in responsibility for different parts of the supply-chain. A redefined supply-chain can jointly create new products and lead to expansion into new markets (Lee).

Synchronized planning, however, cannot be accomplished without a tight linkage of all companies in the supply chain. Channels of communication must be well defined and the performance of each member in the chain must be monitored. The integrated supply-chain must hold members responsible for their part in the process. As product life cycles grow shorter and shorter, efficient synchronization of the supply-chain grows in importance. To ensure that the supply-chain is driven by consumer demand, and to decrease the bullwhip effect, synchronized planning is critical (Lee).

SUPPLIER PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

As the supply-chains of different organizations become tightly intertwined, it becomes necessary to measure the performance of each member of the chain. Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan testified before Congress in February 2001 that businesses were unable to anticipate the economic slowdown of the last recession, overbuilding inventories despite significant supply-chain automation (Fonstad). Even the use of the latest technology, therefore, may not guarantee that a supply-chain is operating efficiently.

One way to answer the question of how well a supply-chain is functioning is to develop supplier scorecards. There are five steps in developing an effective scorecard (Golovin).

o Agree on what is important and how to measure it

o Use web based incident reports to communicate problems as they occur

o Engage in continuous supplier management

o Measure to prevent rather than react

o Use web based software that all suppliers can utilize without making expensive investments in software and training

It is important that the buyer and seller agree at the outset on what is important and how it is measured. This is critical because once decided upon, the supplier will optimize its work to the designated criteria. If just in time delivery is a priority, the supplier may concentrate on this aspect of the order to the detriment of other factors. In addition, benchmarks to measure supplier performance must be realistic and attainable.

Actual performance should then be consistently tracked against these benchmarks. The manufacturer and supplier should work together to develop benchmarks that are consistent with industry performance and product specifications. The use of web based incident reports is important in keeping track of problems as they occur. Incident reports should not be used only to track problems, but should be used to resolve the problem in real time. It is also important to measure the time it takes the supplier to correct the problem.

Continuous supplier management, sometimes referred to as supplier engineering, has become more important as manufacturers outsource more of their operations. A 90-day review cycle can be ruinous when you are manufacturing an innovative product. “Innovative products typically have a life cycle of just a few months” (Chase 337). A 90-day review cycle may come close to exceeding the competitive advantage of an innovative product. Effective continuous supplier management must be geared to specific periods and tolerances. This is then tied to web based incident reports that enable alarms to ring when products, or delivery, are out of agreed upon tolerances.

An effective supplier scorecard should be set up to prevent problems as opposed to reacting to them. The sooner you know there is a problem the lower the cost of resolving it and the greater the chance of preventing it altogether. The best scorecard not only measures events after they have happened, they continually monitor performance in real time. The use of automation is key to making this happen. For example, a system that matches invoices with purchase orders will catch pricing errors before a check is cut and a manufacturer’s money is out the door. Utilizing web-based software not only decreases the cost of a supplier integrating with a manufacturer, it speeds up the integration process. Web-based software also enables suppliers both small and large to participate in the supply-chain.

The other four points listed above all rely on the ability of a manufacturer and a supplier to participate in the planning, sourcing, quality control, and delivery of a product. The Internet enables all members of the supply-chain to collaborate and work together as a team. Finally, by making supplier performance web-based, suppliers are able to participate in their own performance improvement (Golovin).

CONCLUSION

Supply-chain management is an interesting and complex subject. It goes to the core of new business methods in the 21st century. The near universal availability of the Internet is the enabling technology for changes in how the supply-chain of an enterprise is managed. The Internet also allows organizations to adopt new business practices and enter new markets. By harnessing the power of the Internet, supply-chain management will continue to evolve beyond the changes being implemented today.

E-business has been the logical outgrowth of e-commerce. E-business adopts the power of the Internet to accelerate the growth of supply-chain integration. While E-business has had a tremendous impact on supply-chain management, it also can be adapted to both front end and back end business operations (Lee). Improved inventory control and increased profits are two of the benefits of improved supply-chain management. As noted in the introduction, Nike missed its 2001 earnings targets due in part to the failed implementation of a supply-chain automation project. It has also been estimated that more than $30 billion dollars in excess inventories can be eliminated through improved supply-chain management. These real savings can be brought straight to the bottom line.

Four new technologies and business practices that harness the power of the Internet are virtual market places, radio frequency identification tags, synchronized planning (RFID), and supplier performance management. Virtual markets enable buyers and sellers to come together 24/7 in effect creating a store that never closes. The additional advantages of virtual marketplaces are the elimination of an intermediary, access to product and vendor information, and a neutral market where all buyers and sellers are treated equally. Virtual markets give both buyers and sellers the opportunity to re-engineer their sales administration process.

As noted above, RFID has existed since the 1960’s, however, improvements in technology and paring RFID with the Internet has expanded this tracking method beyond its limited past in manufacturing plants. The three components of an RFID system are an antenna, transceiver, and a transponder (tag).

Synchronized planning when applied across a supply chain consists of collaborative forecasting and replenishment, coordinated production, inventory and capacity planning, information integration, and direct linkage of ERP systems. The four key steps in synchronized planning are information integration, planning synchronization, workflow coordination, and the opportunity to develop new business models. Key to synchronized planning is using the Internet for information sharing. The benefits of synchronized planning include better job scheduling and reduction of the bullwhip affect. The bullwhip affect magnifies oscillations upstream in the supply-chain caused by a change in consumer sales. Synchronized planning also defines what is to be done with shared information and how it will be done. As product life cycles grow shorter, efficient synchronization of the supply-chain rewards firms who seize its potential.

Supplier scorecards are a method of evaluating members of the supply-chain in increasingly intertwined organizations. As Alan Greenspan pointed out in 2001, many firms were unable to anticipate the last recession and continued overbuilding inventory despite having invested heavily in supply-chain automation. This statement underscores the need develop the tools to monitor the performance of firms up and down the supply-chain. The five steps to develop an effective scorecard are agreeing on what is important and how it will be measured, the use of web-based incident reports, engagement in continuous supplier management, measuring to prevent problems, and the use of web-based software. In rolling out these tools, it is imperative that both the buyer and the seller first agree on what is important and how it will be measured. The other steps flow from the first.

The Internet has had an enormous impact on the personal and professional lives of businesspersons. On the business side, the Internet has brought new life to existing technologies and offered businesses the opportunity to engage in the world marketplace. The harnessing of the Internet by business has enabled greater cooperation and information exchange up and down the supply-chain. The Internet has enabled businesses to improve the supply-chain by the way they manage inventory, place orders, and communicate critical information with each other.

The Advantages Of Interactive Books For Children

The mind of a child is like a sponge, which soaks in knowledge. When children are young, their ability to absorb whatever they observe is very high. It is great to help them learn this way, but at the same time they should also be encouraged to make their own decisions. Now, with Interactive books available in a variety of forms, there is a great opportunity for children to sharpen their decision making skills at a young age.

Normally, story books are fixed to a single plot, and they are read for enjoyment. Now there are also ebooks, where the stories can be altered as per the decision of the child. This is somewhat a combination of video games with stories, so that children feel that they are participating in the story.

Here the biggest advantage of these ebooks over a traditional book, is that the character actually has a voice and can speak directly to your child. There may also be background music, which changes along with the mood of the story. The child therefore feels that the characters are interacting with him or her. The child learns to make decisions, because when he or she approaches a fork in the story, it will be up to them to decide which route to take and thus observe the consequences of their decision.

For example, you could have a story in which some elder boys are cajoling a younger boy to smoke or drink. Then the story could give the reader a choice of what action he or she wants to take. Based on that decision, the child will find out the results of his or her decision. Thus, in the future, this could help him or her to similarly make real life decisions relating to similar issues. The important thing is that these books are fun, otherwise children would not be interested in reading them.

There are also many web sites on the internet, where your child can read stories and participate in the story telling process. By getting to be a part of the story, your child can also bond with the characters of that story. It can give them a lot of pleasure to help out their favorite characters as they make decisions.

Even if your child reads a lot of regular books, still sometimes reading these interactive books could be a welcome change for them. Either way, it is still beneficial for their minds. The advantages for young children are that but listening to interactive books, they can learn not only new words and sentences, but also know how to pronounce them correctly. Even if, they do make mistakes, the children can backtrack and start again, until they have gotten the correct answers. Interactive books also lay down the foundation knowledge for their future school subjects such as math, science and geography.

So, there is a definite advantage in letting your children read interactive books, and this could not only help with their decision making, but also make them computer-savvy at a young age.

Bible Games for Kids: Persistence Spoons for Genesis 32

“Persistence Spoons” is a wonderful Bible game for kids that can be used when telling the story of Jacob wrestling the Angel in Genesis 32. It’s going to become favorite Bible game because: 1) It’s Active 2) It’s inexpensive 3) it works for younger and older kids and 4) it has a powerful Bible-based message that persistence pays off.

Have children form two relay teams at one end of the room. If there is an odd number, the first child on the team with less people can go twice. Give the first two children on each team a large tablespoon or slotted spoon (that’s four big spoons in all). Put a piece of aluminum foil, rolled up like a baseball into one of the spoons on each time (that’s two aluminum baseballs).

Show the players how to toss the “ball” back and forth to each other, catching it on the spoon. Then, they have to start moving slowly to the other end of the room while tossing back and forth.

One catch without dropping the ball earns one step forward by both teammates. A dropped ball means they have to stay where they are and try again, until a caught ball earns them a step forward.

Once a team reaches the far wall, they can run back with the spoons and ball and deliver to the next set of players.

Which ever team finishes first wins. Ask the children: “Who should get the prize?” They should answer that the winning team should.

However remind them:

“God is not as interested in how fast or how slow we are. He is interested in those who show persistence. Therefore, everyone gets a prize.”

Pass out cookies, licorice sticks, or other available prizes for the winner of the Bible game.

The Effects of Television on Children – A Summary

Introduction

Today television has become a very important part of our daily lives, but particularly so in the lives of our children. As we are aware, these days the greater majority of families, in many parts of the world, have (or have access to) this magical screen.

Television is a very powerful and effective modern phenomena which can influence the shaping of the future for many generations of children in many parts of the world.

Children imitate the action, the spoken word and/or the personality they may happen to be watching, therefore, its influence cannot be underestimated, regardless of the circumstances which the child may happen to be in. This influence can be categorised as either ‘good’ or ‘bad’ for the future development of these children.

Parents and guardians have a major role to play in deciding what channel or program their child can watch, for how long and what part of the day. All these factors are important in deciding the shape of a child’s future within any environment.

Positive and Negative Aspects

Not long ago, the majority of countries had only one or two television channels, not just that, but the viewing time was limited as well as the transmission itself was restricted to a number of hours per day/night.

Today, there are a large number of television channels, and some of these channels specialise in children programs only. Many of these children’s TV channels broadcast from early hours of the morning to late evening (or even on 24 basis), to the extent that large number of children find it difficult to break the habit of not missing a number of favourite programs.

One of the negative effects television has on children is the effect of violence. The hero in a film or television soap opera may use violence for one reason or another, which certainly can be justified in the eyes of the child. That violent action will be considered as normal way of solving a problem(s), and the character, i.e. the hero, becomes the model for any real life situation, in which the child may find himself/herself later on.

On the other hand, educational influences can be excellent aid for learning and development, regardless of whether the children are at school or not. This learning process can also be a step forward later on in life when the subject of education is tackled more seriously. Not forgetting that the learning process, or education in itself, can be much more appealing to the child when used through television programs rather than via a text book, even if the main purpose of this program is pure entertainment or the procedure of a scientific experiment in laboratory.

Comparison

Another factor which can play an important part in the development of children who watch television regularly is comparison. Children start to compare the behaviour of children and adults on television and the behaviour of those around them. They see two models of behaviour, the behaviour of the characters or the presenter on a television program – usually watched regularly – and the behaviour of the parents/guardians and/or relatives who live with the child. In many cases, but particularly so when the child watches TV programs more often, the TV presenter or any TV character shown regularly in many cases will work as a model for the child, rather than the parents/guardians. If this causes confusion in the mind of the child when comparing two different behaviours, then this confusion can influence the mental/emotional development of the child later on in life.

The role of the parents obviously is very important, if the child needs help to sort out any confusion which may occur. In many cases the child will assimilate the differences in behaviour between the model he/she watched on TV, and the surrounding environments. Depending on each individual’s environment and the strength of the TV influence, a child can develop mentally faster (or slower) than the average normal mental development.

Advertising

Commercial advertising also is another factor which can affect children’s understanding of their environment, as well as having an influence on their mental and emotional development in different ways.

In many cases, parents/guardians are not concerned about the effect of television adverts on their children, unless the children make demands to buy one or more products seen by them through advertising. Obviously the purpose of the advertiser is to create this kind of demand. If it doesn’t, then the advert has failed in its’ original purpose. Commercial advertising on television, as we know it, are images with or without sound, which reflect – sometime with great exaggeration – only the beneficial side of a particular product or service. For a child watching an advert related to a product he/she is interested in, then the image of that particular product can be the starting point of a daydream of how wonderful it will be to have such a ‘thing’. Sometimes, this daydreaming can lead to frustration and anger if the product is beyond the reach of the child, particularly so if other children known or seen by the above child managed to have it. Consequently, the end result will be manifested in the child’s behaviour immediately, or it could be later on – for a shorter or longer period of time.

Having said that, and despite the real effect the television may have on children, the claims for the powers of TV should not be exaggerated to the extent of blaming everything the child may do or not do simply on what he/she watched on TV. These kinds of exaggeration are simply a way of shelving the responsibility of parents/guardians, or family members, towards the child concerned.

Conclusion

Television can be a source of education and entertainment for the majority of children around the world. At the same time, television can stop children from being mobile and expressing their own vibrant energy (including vocabulary aspects) as they play and make contact with their natural environment. Television also gives a misguided message about the world as a whole when interpreted in the mind of the child.

In general, the effect is very real, and in certain circumstances, it can have an unquestionable impact on the mental and/or emotional development of any child. These effects can express themselves, on short or long term basis, in a positive or negative way. Television, therefore, should be used by those who look after children mainly for the benefit of those children. This should be done in a balanced and a healthy environment, where supervision by the parents (or the guardians) is an important guiding factor for their mental and emotional growth and development.

The Importance of Campus Life For College Students

College is a time for leaving the comfort and security of home and embarking on the journey to adulthood. Many universities and colleges require a student to live on campus at least during their freshman year. This is very beneficial to students as they will learn about campus life and the many benefits that come with living on campus.

Living on campus allows one to meet and interact with a wide variety of people. People from all over the world will attend a quality college and university so you will be exposed to new cultures and learn so much from them. As well, you will make long lasting friends and have support during times when you may feel home sick. Living on campus helps ease any anxieties associated with the transition from home to college. Not only does living on campus give you easy and quick access to classes, but you will also be able to interact with people living in your dorm and take part in the social gatherings and parties.

Living on campus will give you the ability to take part in many clubs and organizations. This can include organizations that focus on education, cultural diversity, gender issues, recreational activities, spiritual activities, political clubs, sports activities, and much more. Colleges and Universities also have various extra curricular activities such as working at the college newspaper, radio station, and more. The convenience of living on campus makes it more likely that you will participate in clubs and other organizations. As well, the convenience allows you to attend other facilities such as night time labs, night time classes, the library, and the fitness centre. The fitness centre is a great way to exercise, participate in recreational sports activities, and even take a swim. Most colleges also have various college sports team that one can try out for. It is also helpful to be near the college health centre, dining halls, and student information resources.

If you are attending college on a tight budget, you will most likely want a part time job to ease your daily living expenses. Living on campus makes access to an on campus job much easier as you will be only minutes away from your job. You do not have to worry about driving to a job and days when there is bad weather. You will make that extra bit of cash while meeting and interacting new people.

Recent studies have shown that students living on campus are more likely to complete their education program. The reason for this is that students living on campus feel more connected to the college and the people. They tend to invest more time in their classroom studies as well as campus life. There may seem to be a lot of benefits to living off campus when attending college, however, if you live on campus you will be exposed to new experiences and people which will make college life more fun and rewarding. Campus life is a unique experience that one should take full advantage of before they actually get out in the work world where they will have their whole lives to be fully independent.

Sex Education: Its Importance and Need in the Society

Sex Education, as the term clearly indicates, refers to education which is based on human sexual behavior. Parents, schools or caretakers offer it in some parts of the world to educate the children, who are stepping into their adolescence. If formally received, sex education is either taught as a full course at high school or junior high school level or in biology, health, home economics classes. Teaching sex education is rather a controversial issue; debates have been going on for several decades discussing if it should be taught formally in schools or not. Sex education in schools should exist without any doubts and apprehensions as it offers many benefits.

Adolescence is called the “age of storm and stress”. The young teenagers, during this phase of life are under deep psychological pressure. Mainly, this psychological pressure is the result of one’s growing sexual needs and the biological changes and hormonal effects on the individuals. During this time, most of the children are observed to become easily irritable. They find it difficult in most situations to deal with the family members. They might not want to talk to them about the natural changes taking place in their body and mind. In such circumstances, one highly suitable option is that of the teachers who are able to teach them to control their urges until a proper age. In schools, trained teachers would help the students to know how to deal with their sexual impulses. This role can not be replaced by parents or other entities. A classroom discussion and lesson would make them feel it is natural, and they would also feel that they are being understood by someone. However, taking them individually to psychologists or other trained educators would not help. In such a situation they might consider themselves to be different and misunderstood by family and people around them. Therefore, it becomes crystal clear that the best way to offer sex education is always in school.

It is a psychological phenomenon that children at young age are under an immense peer pressure. Something that they learn in the class with their peer group is what makes a better impression on their minds than otherwise. They are more focused in the lessons that teachers offer and are more eager asking question to clear their ambiguities. They might feel embarrassed and uneasy questioning their parents about it, but it always differs in case of the teacher in the class. This is because everyone in the class is going through the same stage. A class discussion becomes healthy source of learning as it helps in enhancing the knowledge on the subject.

Many people advocate that sex education should only be restricted to families, that is, that parents should personally educate their children. This view is totally illogical and holds complications and questions. The first point is that not all the parents would be willing to do it or would be able to do it. Secondly, this education needs a proper channel through which it should reach its required learners. There could be many possible problems in the families so they might not be able to take the role of a teacher in educating their children regarding sex. The demand of annulment of sex education from the schools is highly conservative.

Most importantly, there are many single parents, how would they take up this challenge of educating their children on their own? Parents can not properly educate their children about sex also because they lack details that qualified sex educators convey in schools. Thus, the stance of abolishing sex education in school is not a favorable thought. In many observed cases where parents or children are embarrassed about talking over sexual matters with each other, it is most likely to be uneasy situation at both the ends. This keeps the children from learning the answers to the questions they might have in their minds. This can be a great flaw of shifting the duty of sexual education from teachers to the parents. It will leave the children only half or less educated about the issue and as they say “Little knowledge is a dangerous thing”, this might end up in grave situations.

According to research, most of the parents also feel uneasy because they know that they are not equipped to provide the apt sexual information to their children. They also fail to comprehend what details and information should be concealed and what should be revealed, keeping in mind their children’s age. On the other hand, there might also be parents who would feel comfortable talking to their children about sexual matters, but only when the children bring the matter up.

Most parents, around the world, may also lack role models to look up to as they would not have talked over sexual issues with their own parents in their adolescent. This makes them inefficient to trigger their roles of educating their children in an effective way as the assigned teachers are able to do in schools.

Sex education is not limited to only a single branch of knowledge. This education focuses on a number of significant sexual matters that are offered with especially designed courses and programs. Sex education covers the education of relationships, sexual abstinence at a certain level and teaching to practice safe sex to the level of children who are thought to be sexually active. Therefore, its claim for being appropriate and guiding holds strong base.

At a certain age of adolescence, growing children have problems facing relationships and controlling their personal emotions. Conflicts related to such matters persuade many youngsters to commit suicides or take part in other immoral activities. Proper sex education in schools also concentrates in making the youngsters emotionally stronger and in educating ways to cope with relationship problems. This argument strongly shows the immense benefit of sex education in schools.

Sex education is an important health strategy and this cannot be denied. AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases can only be controlled if people are aware of precautions and have a vast knowledge in this case. This knowledge is conveyed through sex education, and if sex education is banned in schools and if parents have to educate their children, then it would not be as beneficial to the individuals and the society on the whole as teaching in school could be.

Sex education does not exist in all parts of the world. Asians are commonly regarded conservative when compared to westerners. It is not a part of their course in schools; this does not in any way mean that their teenage pregnancy rate is any lower if they are not exposed to sexual matters openly. In fact, this is one way how peers can mislead most of the youngsters and persuade them to bask in young age sexual relationships without any attempts for safety. This has resulted in serious problems such as the spread of fatal diseases like AIDS and has also increased rate of illegitimate births.

Researches have shown that the cause for ramification of STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) in the eras of 80s and 90s in the US and the UK is the lack of knowledge and information provided about sex in schools or home. Home and family has never and will never play an integral part in conveying sex education to teenagers, therefore to rely on the option of home, is to deceive your own self from the expected exigency in the future.

Some conservative groups assert that to discuss sexual issues openly is to devalue religion. No religion in the world abstain its followers from spreading the information that is so essential for human lives. Sexual behavior is natural and takes place through biological changes and this cannot be questioned as this is a part of human life. Thus people who take refuge under the religious shelter, to make their arguments strong, are misinterpreting religious ideas and laws.

Modern time is the time of internet and powerful media. Teenagers are exposed to Hollywood, TV and internet. These sources offer demonstration of sex which is highly thoughtless and casual; in this situation it is almost illogical to leave the teenagers on their sexual choices. They are young and fully excited; therefore they can not make a favorable choice. Sex education in school offers the information and knowledge they need to understand to know the responsibility that is accompanied by sexual relationships. The teacher in school helps the students to know the difference between a thoughtless and thoughtful sex. Having an urge for sex is not a problem; it is a natural process showing that the young people are developing to become adults; however the problem is having unsafe sex and hurting people through sexual choices.

People who claim that sex education in schools have more cons than pros, often come up with the statements suggesting that sex education in classroom should be avoided because the most effective tool for offering sex education, according to them is TV, films, magazines and media. Such people fail to understand that trained sex educators under especially designed programs teach sex education to children in schools. They are thus able to handle children’s problems and clear their ambiguities in the best possible way, whereas magazines, films, TV and other channels and mediums of providing sex education are be reliable. They are most of the times urging the young people by encouraging their sexual promiscuity rather than effectively teaching and educating them. This wrong approach damages the society and the individuals in disguise of ameliorating them.

People contradicting the notion insist that sex education always makes the learners have sex and experience it personally, once they learn about it in school. The reality is that sexual urge for any human being is a natural occurrence. When children reach to a certain age, whether they find people to educated them about sex or not, they do have natural instincts about it, and therefore if provided a chance they would surely want to satisfy their urge. This natural reaction can not in any way be related to the outcome of sex education in schools. In fact, the best time for letting sex education play its role is when the sexual urge increases and the teenagers want to find a source for its satisfaction. It offers individuals with the required knowledge so that they are careful. It is only then that they understand the consequences of sex leading to child birth as well as sexually transmitted diseases. Thus sex education is basically a warning and a caution for such children who are stepping into the phase of life where they would need to know all this.

Some people who go against the topic also argue that even though sex education exists, it has still not decreased the rate of teenage pregnancies. I would rather not go deep in to the moral issue of the topic, but it is important here to discuss and point out the shortcomings of our society. Social values that insist that being single, pregnant and teenagers is fine, is what has to be changed. Through educating the children and making them aware that it is just not ‘cool’ to be pregnant when single or teenager, and just because ‘others are also doing it’ does not in any way justify their actions, this change can be achieved. There are many sexual education programs that teach the learners about the grave consequences that can result in having early sex. This type of sex education in schools is helpful and makes the learners responsible and mature enough to understand the difference between morality and immorality.

People, who are against the notion, repeatedly state the question that why sex education is given so much importance when there are also many other issues connected with juvenile delinquencies such as drugs, drinking and aggressive bullying. No doubt, there are also many other issues to consider important enough to be taught in school for awareness but psychological researches show that behind most of the juvenile behavioral problems, one main reason is always the active sexual urge which drives the young people to indulge themselves in harmful activities like drug abuse and alcoholism. It is also commonly observed that young teenagers who indulge into such activities are unaware of proper sex education. Once they are given a true picture of sex and its consequences their mental status relaxes and they are easily able to cope with other social taboos.

Parents, who believe that sex education pollutes the minds of their children, have in large number taken their children out of schools promoting sex education. In this process of instilling in their minds their religious and family values, they forget that the media, their children are largely exposed to can also lead them astray. Sex education in schools does not in any way offers them an invitation to have open sex by making them aware of the risks; it just educates them about the matter in the best way.

Apart from educating the students about safe sex, sex education in schools is also helpful as it helps students to learn proper terminology for reproductive system, STDs and birth contraceptives rather than the street lingo that is commonly used by laymen. Sex education classes are gender based and that is why the young learners are not embarrassed and are only taught what is related to their gender. Early inclusion of classes also helps the teenagers to either become abstinent for some time or to become responsible if they are already active. Therefore, many sexual problems that occur in adulthood can be controlled if effective and apt sex education is given at the right time.

A proper sex education which is holistic, nonjudgmental and comprehensive never misleads or misguides the teenagers. Such a curriculum should be imposed in all schools around the nation; it is an answer to many social problems and conflicts. Would any parent leave their kindergarten kids to walk alone on the streets without letting them know how to walk safely? No parent would actually do that, in the same way, letting your teenager children socialize with their peers and fellows without any proper sexual education is nothing contrary to the analogy mentioned above. It is hazardous and risky for their lives. Thus, proper sex education in schools should be encouraged so that they learn all the significant facts through trained teachers, who help and supports them in these matters of highly crucial value. Sex education should be taken as a positive aspect which promises healthier and better life for the youngsters. It therefore should be taken as a subject taught in schools to enhance knowledge on the subject matter; something merely as human anatomy or biology class. Sex education should be given in all schools to educate the children for their betterment, avoiding it will only result in emotional, social and health problems.

The Freemasonic Order of the Golden Centurion

I think most people who will read this will not accept what I am saying here without doing a lot of checking into the facts.

‘I tried sending through an attachment from a fellow researcher who is working on the Kaballah as derivative from Qaballa which is an ancient Verbal Tradition such as kept by the Bairds or bards and the Bardic Tradition for over 25,000 years. He finds my history is supportive and I see his sets of codes in English and other things of great value. The particular piece is 19 pages on just the letter ‘E’ without getting too verbose or using illustrations, which he has lots of. The Gematria is not a specialty of mine although I am pretty good at pre-history languages and not bad at Green Languages and alchemical allegories in the Jung from Silberer subset derived from alchemy or Hermetics. That has usages in psychotherapy and mind control which they call Neuro Psycho Linguistics and other words and systems they often do not understand; it once was called Dream Analysis but they have gone far along the path of programming the mind. Kind of funny how psychiatrists say they do not believe in a soul and yet they use these archetypes from our collective soul.

So as Dion Fortune did say – Kaballah is ‘twisted’. They have built these constructs or dimensional energy designs so that Masons and other ‘traveling men’ as you call them will think they have stumbled upon a great truth through their ‘visions’. After all who can imagine that elementals and dimensional energies are subject to such design engineering – eh? As Jung says in his forward to The Tibetan Book of the Dead – the Hindu will see Shiva and that hierarchy whereas the Christian will go through the Bardol stages of Afterlife and see the likes of Gabriel then Jesus.’

Here is a correspondence from the fellow researcher mentioned above. His name is Dennis Fetcho or The Fetch.

“No I haven’t seen any of your recent stuff. Been travelling a lot these past few months. Spent a month in the hospital in Montreal from an attack in December that left me unable to move for a few weeks due to the multiple fractures suffered. Some of my advisors called the attack a military style hit with the intent to kill. Missed hitting my head on the streets, but the rest of the body took a licking!

Yeah. Had drinks with one of Jordan’s top masons while in Amman and he was so impressed that he wanted to confer an honorary degree on me… as he said, “If only it were in my power”. I have many ideas in mind and one is to infiltrate Masonry and fuse it with “right thinking” based on my Isisian Code System which I know would be very accepted in such an environment.

It is easy to destroy a paradigm through decay within. I think it is a favored “Jehovian strategy!”… lol”

“The members of the secret F.O.G.C. {from the words of a top Rosicrucian friend this means the Freemasonic Order of the Golden Centurion.} Lodge, greatly feared in occult circles, had gathered for a general meeting in Dresden. The Meeting hall was in a large villa, hidden in the midst of a private park behind a tall hedge and large trees. The Grand Master of the lodge had invited ninety-eight of the ninety-nine members to attend. Long before the meeting commenced, the members had taken their places at two long tables.

All conversation in the hall became muted when the Grand Master entered accompanied by his second-in-command, who acted as Secretary. There was a platform opposite the hall’s entrance where the Grand Master sat down behind a desk. He rang a bell and at once there was complete silence. He addressed the brethren of the lodge in an intense penetrating voice:

‘My dear brothers, I hereby open today’s meeting and I am pleased that you have accepted my invitation. As you know, according to the laws of the lodge a general meeting such as this is only declared in very special cases. You may have already noticed that Brother Silesius is not present. Unfortunately, he has been found guilty of betraying lodge secrets and, as Point Number One of the agenda, we will discuss his sentence. Point Number Two concerns Frabato the Magician, who is becoming so well-known here in Dresden.

‘My dear brothers, you all know that Brother Silesius has reached the twenty-fifth degree of initiation in our lodge, and therefore must have been fully aware of his offences. His excessive zeal seduced him to reveal to one of his friends the rituals we use to invoke the elemental beings. According to the laws of our lodge, the breaking of an oath and the disclosure of secrets are punishable by death…

Although the verdict had deeply shaken the Grand Master, he quickly regained his composure and continued in a calmer voice.

‘Since Point Number One of the agenda has been settled, let us now deal with the case of Frabato. Some of the brethren present attended his performances and were able to convince themselves of his abilities at close range. It has been proven that he works without the aid of conventional tricks. His experiments succeeded beyond all expectation; yes, they were even better than what many of our own brethren would be able to accomplish. Hermes, one of our more versatile brothers, paid a visit to Frabato in order to test him. He will now tell you of his experience.

The distinguished gentleman who had visited Frabato late at night now rose from amongst the brethren.

‘I chose the best astrological hour for my visit to Frabato. I also took into account the correspondences of the elements in order to place myself in a strong initial position. Besides this, I hoped he would be exhausted after the performance he had just given; that would have been to my advantage. I explained the unusual time of my visit by telling him I had a journey to make which could not be postponed. Upon hearing this, Frabato looked at me sharply and then smiled faintly without uttering a word.

‘I then painted a very colorful picture of our lodge membership; pointed out its many advantages, and promised him a large sum of money from our funds should he decide to join. But Frabato completely ignored my proposals and started to talk about his journeys, his performances and successes in many cities and towns. He was able to arouse my curiosity so strongly that I almost forgot the reason for my visit.

In time I interrupted him and tried to direct his attention to my offer, He rose and pulled a suitcase out from under his bed saying, ‘Now let us have a look at what the Akashic records have to say about your lodge.’

‘As you know, my dear brothers, I am well acquainted with occult methods and practices; therefore I was determined to use all my powers to prevent Frabato’s experiment. But as soon as the notion entered my mind, he said to me, as if by chance, ‘Dear Mr. Hermes, my experiments depend purely upon my will power and cannot be influenced or prevented by you. They will succeed whether you actively appose them or not.’

‘I felt that Frabato could see right through me, and surmised that I would have no chance against him, so I watched his preparations intently {Intent is a key attribute to be developed.}. First he cleaned his hands carefully, took a small bottle out of his suitcase, and applied a few drops to his hands. No doubt it was prepared from the essences of certain plants, {Perhaps Belladonna and digitalis which have long been part of the shamanic medicine bag, mixed with a little blood of the practitioner in order to aid genetic attunement at a solar or molecular and animal state consciousness.} for a pleasant fragrance permeated the room. He then took a small lamp out of a little box and put it on the table. Then, from a second box, he brought forth a glass ball about twenty centimeters in diameter and placed it on a stand on the table. When I asked him what purpose this glass ball served, Frabato laughed and replied, ‘If there were any clairvoyants in your lodge, and if they really possessed the knowledge which you attempt or pretend to have, then they would know that this is a magic mirror. This sphere contains a liquid, the particular composition of which requires not only patient work but excellent magical abilities as well.’

‘I was enraged; but I tried to control myself, for I felt that nothing remained hidden from this man.

‘I am going to show you a film, and then you can judge for yourself whether it is really advantageous to be a member of your lodge,’ he continued.

‘I watched each of his movements attentively, to be sure that he was not employing any tricks. He rolled up the sleeves of his shirt and sat down beside me in front of the sphere. Then he stretched both his hands towards the glass ball, his fingers slightly splayed. A grayish-white light escaped from the tips of his fingers and was absorbed by the sphere which, a few moments later, began to illuminate everything with a fluorescent ball of light the color of a fiery opal…. I was by that time in some suspense as he said:

‘Next we shall look behind the scenes of your esteemed Grand Master’s life…. The color of the Grand Master’s face changed a few times. When Hermes began to describe some of the more startling events of the Grand Master’s life as revealed to him in the magic mirror, the Grand Master discreetly gave him to understand that this was not desirable. Hermes understood and skillfully moved on to more general topics. {The same was done for eight of the top members of the lodge.}

Managing In Today’s Business Environment

Managing a business, as you know, is both an art and a science. You can learn quite a bit from materials available in the market. However, you can get the feel of the business only when you apply those lessons and suggestions, interact with people experienced professionals and then go back again to your lessons. Now you are armed with your own valuable experience. But the question is – what is so special about today’s Business Environment? Is today’s business environment something different than what it was earlier? The answer would be a firm ‘yes’.

Earlier the world was divided into isolated zones. If you were given the task of leading a small business, you were expected to keep your views confined to your particular zone only. But now, the world is one entity, despite the political divides. Communication technology has advanced so much that two persons in two different hemispheres can get in touch any moment and instantly. You can travel from one part of the world to the other at very high speed.

With technological advancement business avenues have gone up rapidly. Let us take a simple example. Look around you and see the profusion of electronic gadgets in the market. But against all these rosy images, pressure on today’s business leaders is on the rise since competition is getting stiff by the day. So unless one manages his business with all seriousness and with full utilization of his skills, it is quite possible that instead of rising up the business ladder, he may fall head down. Therefore he has to learn the intricacies of different aspects of managing today’s business environment.

While you manage your business you have to constantly go through many formalities that have to co-relate with your basic business activities. You have to register with many associations, maintain a list of different authorities so that you can seek advice and help, whenever the need arises. Be conversant with the basics of tax matters and relevant rules and regulations.

Acquiring or organizing funds is the most important task. But it may not be as difficult as others that lie ahead. You can take loans from banks and even from your well-wishers. Lease financing and factoring are other sources. You can very well go public. You will succeed this way or the other if there is an able leader at the helm of affairs in this venture. This is because a true leader can transform a business beginning from scratch into a gold mine. You too must have seen or heard that a small business often makes spectacular progress by the sole dedication and sincerity of its leader. Can you not be a leader among leaders? Of course, you can.

The leader has to love the tasks before him. Sincerity will automatically flow from that. He will give additional hours for the organization on his own. He should have a sixth sense for business opportunities so that he can harness richer pastures. But the most important qualification would be to understand his employees with whom he should be friendly while maintaining his professional distance. He should be able to judge each of his employee’s strength and weakness and then allocate jobs accordingly. He should fairly decide rewards and punishments. Inter-personal relationship skills are therefore very important for a true leader. The leader should have the mind and attitude to take his own decisions. In a very large organization, too many persons may adhere to the throne of leadership and that may suffocate the leader with real merits.

A true leader will proceed with a business plan. This business plan should be available in writing in an easily readable, easily understood form that also grabs attention for its presentation. This is his true selling point – on this depends the trust in the organization.

The leader will have to pay attention to so many things all the time. He has to think of marketing strategies, sales boosting, personnel matters, legal issues, accounts modalities, uninterrupted fund flow, procurement and storing, timely transfer of materials, and even day-to-day office administration. He has to curtail unnecessary expenditure. And above all he has to find out the shortest ways to boost profits.

As a good marketing strategist he has to find out how to create an indelible impression in his niche market. Of course, advertising is the solution. He has to judge which media he can depend upon, considering the amount that has been earmarked for the purpose and expected impact from the move. But even if there is fund constraint for advertising in print or electronic media he should not be disheartened. There are other ways too, like issuing coupons, arranging competitions, etc. Offering gifts too can be a good marketing strategy.

So far as sales promotion is concerned, it is well within the knowledge of an able leader that the old technique of telling the customers about the quality of the goods again and again is passé. But if you can understand the problems faced by the customers and try to solve those with the help of your organization, you can very well attract them by this customer-focused sales promotion method.

The leader should even think how to make packaging of his products more attractive. For the customers believe in first impressions.

In the past, there was no scope for sales promotion through web-sites and emails or sending SMS messages through cell phones. But in the modern age why should you not think of utilizing those facilities? You can start by designing a useful and attractive web-site that will enhance the fame of your organization. However, a good leader knows that caution in the matter is to be exerted while sending SMS messages or emails etc. so that the customers do not take it as an infringement on their privacy. Otherwise such misadventures may bring in adverse effects on your business.

Your strategy should be to hold out the truth about your products or services and not exaggerate them. Sometimes money-sucking leaders lure customers by trying to convince them with flowery words. But if the customer is dissatisfied he will definitely defame your products or services. And bad news travels fast. An able leader, on the other hand, tries to pay attention to the complaints received from customers. If those are not genuine, he instructs his employees to explain courteously before the agitated customer. But if such complaints are genuine, he takes every effort to redress the grievance. A good leader cares for good public relation skills of his employees. He does not spare any negligence in after-sales service if that service is applicable to his organization.

To guess correctly the strategy of a competitor and chalk out one’s own strategy accordingly depends on leadership ability. However, the leader should not antagonize his competitors and should be a fair sportsman when he meets the latter.

The leader has to keep track of research going on around the world that concerns his particular business. If possible, he may think of making provision for some research activities within his business zone too. The leader should encourage his capable employees to participate in seminars and workshops that have relevance to the activities of his business area. The articles the latter may contribute for such events will help spread the name of his organization.

He who sells best sells most. A business leader needs to fix a price so that he is way ahead of his competitors.

Among the assets of a business are its machinery and equipment, house etc., workshop, warehouse, vehicles etc. But a sincere and skilled workforce is the most priceless asset for a business enterprise. A business becomes a money-rolling machine without the sincere involvement of the employees. Therefore, if anyone is unwilling to give importance to personnel management he can do that at his own peril or by ruining his business prosperity.

Start from the recruitment stage. Proper selection of personnel can give you a healthy business. You can select them through written tests followed by practical tests and interviews. Sometimes leaders bully candidates to test their skill levels. Such leaders are anything but successful. For your job is to find out the right candidate and not exhibit your strengths. The candidate believes he is facing an experienced professional and it would be thoroughly unprofessional to outgrow him at the interview. But if the interviewer loses his own patience and amiable nature, it spoils the very purpose of the recruitment process.

Once the selection process is over, it is the job of the leader to train them. At every stage the leader should monitor their performance and that will be of great help to assess further the new recruits.

An able leader sees to it that his team members talk to him without hesitation, discuss their problems and volunteer suggestions. A good leader motivates the employees under him. To motivate further, rewards should be declared at intervals. Even if the rewards are nominal, they play an important role. The staff concerned will realize that his performance has been monitored and assessed correctly. That will inspire him to move forward with added zeal.

The staff should be encouraged to join courses that will be helpful for the business. There should be incentives for that. In-house training courses too should be organized.

Sometimes people think that just by raising salary, employees can be motivated. That is a wrong concept. Just sudden jumps in salaries without caring to assess the individual merits do not promise improvement in staff performance. Good pay for good work should be the aim of the business.

How should aggressive, careless and trouble-makers be treated? An able leader does know that firmness in those cases will generally help those persons to rectify themselves. If simple cautions do not work, warnings should be issued. But before any punitive action is taken, it should be ensured that the person concerned had been given ample scope to come back on the right track.

Sometimes firing a staff may become unavoidable. But steady progress eliminates such possibilities. Even if there is any need for firing a staff, the leader should be careful to minimize that as far as practicable. The existing staff will also appreciate his efforts in the matter.

To his staff a good leader should be a good friend and a strict taskmaster whose heart is full with affection for every individual.

Thus, in today’s changed world the leader has to be more conscious about new ideas and inventions. With imagination, sincerity and diligence he has to move ahead with his dreams. But his health is an important factor because his health and the health of the business are tuned together. He should maintain discipline in his life if he is to maintain discipline in his business.

It is quite natural for the staff in general to follow their leader if they are convinced that the latter is an ideal one.

A business becomes very prospective when everyone, be he in sales or accounts or engineering or public relations, feels that he is very much a part of that family. If the business does prosper everyone is delighted and if it fails, everyone is grieved. If a business is successful, sheer team spirit will roll it forward.

Both the past and present have produced great leaders and amazing workforce. That is a salute to the one person who had and has the ability to manage business and man force.

A good leader can inspire team spirit in his staff. A good leader begets good business. A happy and contented leader will bring happiness in everyone working with him. And this is achievable even in the toughest of times.
